After more than ten years of building relationships and business on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram I made the difficult decision to quit. For years, these social media platforms had been my go-to platform for connecting with friends, family, and customers. But over time, particularly in the last seven years, I began to notice a disturbing trend - Facebook was becoming increasingly toxic, divisive, and dangerous.
It started with the political ads and posts that flooded my newsfeed. No matter where I looked, I couldn't escape the constant barrage of negative, divisive messages that seemed to permeate every corner of the platform. At first, I tried to ignore it, but as the months went on, it became harder and harder to log in without feeling overwhelmed by the negativity.
Then there were the privacy concerns. Every time I logged onto Facebook, I was bombarded with ads that seemed to know more about him than I knew about himself. I began to feel like my personal information was being used against me, and that I had no control over how it was being used.
Facebook and Twitter claimed to be a platform for connection and community, but in reality, it was breeding ground for hate, misinformation, and division. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I couldn't in good conscience continue to support a platform that was so fundamentally at odds with his own values.
So, after January 6, 2021, I decided to quit Facebook. It wasn't an easy decision I had built so many important relationships through the platform over the years, and it had been an essential tool for growing my business. But he knew that I couldn't continue to support these platforms that had become so toxic and divisive.
As I prayed and sought the mind of the Lord on making this move, I had a prophetic dream and the Lord showed me that I would continue to connect with people and they would become customers.
I have joined a few local community groups. I have a great community on my email list.
Over these last two years, I feel a sense of liberation. I am no longer tied to a platform that was dragging me down. My business is still thriving. More importantly, I feel great.
